Twinkling Mittens (here gloves)
Twinkling mittens (gloves) is a prototype of a garment interacting with the surrounding light and temperature conditions. The idea is simple: the darker it gets, the more LEDs light up – first the centermost red lights, then the green ones. The yellow LEDs light up in cold temperatures.
Now, imagine a beautiful mitten in the place of the workman's glove, the whole mitten woven out of optical fibre instead of using LEDs, and bluetooth instead of wires. While walking outside in the cold, the whole mitten would light up cheering you up and making you visible during the dark season.
Focus: intuitive interaction, electronics
Team work with Kristine Visanen and Pekka Salonen. Realized during Designing Interaction with Electronics workshop (12-16.11.2007) at Media Lab, taught by Michihito Mizutani
Materials
Photo resistor, temperature sensor, circuit board, soldering kit, gloves, wires, MAC BS2 Code (PDF)
